## Narrative:
Phantasm was one of the very first digital artworks I created, It was made in 2012, and it was the very first time used Corel Painter In conjunction with Zbrush, Cinema 4D and Photoshop.
It is a piece heavily inspired by the works of H.P Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, which I was both fascinated and obsessed with during my teens. It was much later that I had discovered we had access to these dimensions of dark insanity, and early reckless psychonautical exploration dropped me into these shadow realms. They all turned out to be pivotal life lessons on embracing and acknowledging my shadow side and helping me to put it all into balance.
When making this I was constantly reminded how mantra's and yantra's just like anything else are just tools that can used to project both positive and negative outcomes and that it was an incomplete view to assume any symbol as just negative or positive, what makes the difference is how the aspirant makes use of them.
Phantasm was created in about 12 hours

# Looking back after all is said and done...
This is not an artwork that I share too often, It's pretty dark in contrast to most of what I have done over the years.
Phantasm was one of the very first pieces of digital art that I made which was on the level which was acceptable to me to share online.
It was created during a period of my life in which I had an unstoppable flow and gushing inspiration, coupled with wild technique experimentation and constant learning (eating, drinking, breathing tutorials) I made and finished this within one day.
At the time, I was in the middle of creating probably the most widely shared artwork I have ever made: Serpentine Apotheosis. I was somewhere between these two variations at the time:

If remember this piece, then you know I still had a fair bit to get the end result I was after.
I was also almost finished making the music video for Entheogenic's Body of Light, which took me a year to complete on 3 different rigs.
At the time, I was also working full time as an animator in a large advertising agency, so I pretty much had my plate full ::))
It's interesting that I randomly chose Phantasm to share today, because that was the very first work I used both Zbrush and painter which was completed. Because I have recently returned to visiting this style and diving much deeper into Zbrush, as I had been using it less and less over the years.
Now, 12 years later looking back, this image doesn't hold much meaning, I like the design, colors and the environment but apart from that it holds a significant amount of nostalgic value, of the exciting times of finally being able to convey properly and aesthetically with a certain level of skill after a lifetime of painting, and drawing, and to me, failing miserably at it. It reminds me of a time in life in which I was finally turning pro.
The meaning it held back then was memories of hyper-spatial realms, and various creatures that inhabited those realms, not all benevolent. Very interestingly, some of the creatures, like the ones in this artwork, were extremely similar to the creatures I would encounter in my own inner world I had created when I was around 2–3 years old; a place called "Inshallah".
That is another story for another day, but I promise I will get back to it someday soon, as it hold some value and is worth being told.
